Caturday – TP Wrangler

Miko, my Balinese, has always been obsessed with paper products, especially TP (toilet paper) and Kleenex.

During the night, she opened a cabinet in the bathroom and grabbed a partial roll of toilet paper.

This is what I woke up to see.

Heavy sigh.

La partie

On Sunday, I had eight people over for dinner. It started out as a small dinner for four, but as things often do, it grew into an event for nine.

First of all, I had to actually do a major declutter of the kitchen/dining room. The kitchen island had not been seen for months. And the dining room table still had stuff on it from the pantry reorg one year ago. (no need to make any comments). Here’s the table after the declutter and with an old table cloth on it to keep the cats off (ha).
The menu included an Italian porchetta (cooked in the crock pot), potatoes and baby carrots (also done in the crock pot), green beans, dairy-free baked ziti, spring greens with blueberries, feta cheese crumbles, and lemon balsamic vinegrette. Dessert was peach-huckleberry pie ala-mode and chocolate peppermint cupcakes.

And let’s not forget the requisite wine. A guest brought a superb bottle of red wine. I so loved this wine, I drank most of it. It is now on my xmas list (good thing my daughter is over 21).
Daughter came by earlier in the day to help out. It was nice to have a bit of assistance. We used the xmas dishes that usually sit in the cupboard.
Because I was so busy getting ready and then very involved with everyone during the party, I failed to take pictures. However, I did grab one of the aftermath. Don’t bother counting wine bottles; not all are visible.
I have a refrigerator full of leftovers. We had appetizers, but forgot to put one of them out. Cucumber slices with hummus. Think I will munch on these tomorrow. Aren’t they cute?
All-in-all, I thought it was a great little party. I know that I had a wonderful time! Oh yeah – and what an excellent reason to clean up the house.

New Bedroom – Part 1

We last left off with the huge headboard still in the bedroom. A friend stopped by the other night and we were able to move it to the garage.

Alas, I had painted the room several years ago, but could not paint behind the headboard. This is now quite apparent.
I searched high and low and think I found the paint for that room. Looked like a match, right? (Amazing how artificial light dulls the color in the room. The paint color in the picture above is more realistic).
So I threw down some plastic and did a quick paint job. Uh-oh, looks too light.
I came back a couple of hours later, and voila!
I gave it a quick second coat and declared it a done deal.

Today, I took a day off from work and had Junk n Dump come by to haul away stuff. An old love seat, 2 old TVs, queen-size bed frame with drawers and headboard, old cans of paint, old fertilizer, plant food, decrepit sawhorses, and anything else I could dig out of the garage.
A quick check written and I almost have my garage back. At least enough so I can park the car in it.

So tonight, Halloween, I plan to clear out a few boxes in the bedroom. And after a thorough vacuum, hopefully move the bed into the bedroom. Novel concept, huh? Bed in the bedroom. I am thinking a bit of a sugar rush should make this a quick job.

Wish me luck!

Junk Room Be Gone

Early this summer I bought a new bed and put it in the sewing room. The old bed was a waveless waterbed and I needed to drain and dismantle it.

Needless to say, that did not happen over the summer. In fact, the bedroom became the junk room.
I am done procrastinating because I now must move the bed from the sewing room into the bedroom. My new chair for the sewing room should be here any day. So the declutter begins.

I cleared stuff off and set up to drain the waterbed. It has not been touched for 15 years. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that it was a shallow fill mattress. Yay – drained in about 10 minutes. Miko supervised.
I then had to drag the waterbed mattress to the garage. Same with the other 2 mattresses. Fairly easy for one person to deal with.
Now I have to deal with the frame and headboard. There are six drawers under the bed. Check. And the drawer frame. Check. But the headboard is too heavy and bulky for me to move by myself. Drat!
A little side note. I found the following lip balms under the bed. I knew there would be a few because the cats would bat them around from the headboard. But this many?

So the bedroom is almost ready. I just need some assistance moving the headboard and then I can move the bed into the bedroom. New chair — we are almost ready for you!

Getting Comfy

I have been cleaning, clearing, decluttering, and so on. One of the big projects is in the sewing room.

I want to get back to quilting, so am getting the space ready. Today I ordered the chair from heaven.
Not getting the pillows in the picture though. That front pillow reminds me of a robot reading a book. Do you see it?

This baby is a swivel glider that melts around your body. I have test driven this very chair at least a dozen times over the past couple of months. We are on a first name basis. Oh, the chair’s name is Quinn.

I not only ordered this chair with the blue paisley fabric, but also got Quinn’s cousin, the glider ottoman. They are a very close family.

So now I have about a month to completely clean out the spare bedroom so I can move the bed from the sewing room into the bedroom. Quinn and cousin, Otto, deserve a room of their own.

This chair is so spectacular, my friend also bought one. Hers is a charcoal gray paisley. Wonder what her chair and ottoman’s name are.

The Problem … and Solution

Miko, the Balinese, is obsessed with the toilet paper.

I tried turning the roll so it unwinds in a different direction. Placing the roll on the counter. Squirting her with water when she paws at the roll. None of these purported solutions seemed to work. There was always a new ripped up roll of toilet paper. And as someone with Crohn’s Disease, I do not want to be without TP. (TMI? Just trying to point out the severity of this problem.)

Finally, I have a solution–as long as I remember to use it. This is the cover for a large spindle of blank CDs. A perfect fit and something that I already had.
Yay for repurposing!

I Got My Domestic On!

For some reason, I was feeling very domestic yesterday. If only I knew what brought this on, I could bottle it (or maybe put it in a pill), sell it, and become a billionaire!! If only…

Anyway, I did several loads of laundry, which included washing and changing all bedding. Sunni helped with the laundry.

My stomach was craving a fully cooked meal, not just little bits and pieces that I often eat. So I hightailed it off to the grocery store and picked up a tiny pork roast. I had grabbed fresh green beans and peaches at the farmers market. Thus this tasty Sunday dinner (and Monday and Tuesday too).

I dusted, vacuumed, and swept where needed. And the best part was taking a nap in the afternoon.

I gotta be domestic more often!
