Two Birds, One Stone

August 15th is now touted as

  • National Relaxation Day
  • National Lemon Meringue Pie Day

And since I am patriotic (and try to celebrate as many “National” days as possible), I felt a call to duty.

I love lemon meringue pie! When I was a kid, I was allowed to pick whatever dessert for my birthday. I always picked lemon meringue pie. Not only did I love it, but many did not. Thus more for me!

And although I am now retired, I must embrace National Relaxation Day too. What better way to relax than with a good book. Currently I am devouring the latest in the Spenser series, Slow Burn.

I have read all 40+ of the Spenser books. Originally by Robert B. Parker, they are now written by Ace Atkins since Parker died in 2010.

Today is also National Cupcake Day and National Failure Day. Apparently I am sort of celebrating a failure since I failed to eat a cupcake. I can only do so much.

  1. Lemon meringue pies remind me of my poor mother, who baked one for a family gettogether, then was accused by one of my aunts of having bought it at a bakery. I suppose she could have taken it as a compliment, but Mom had a dinged sense of humor and was hurt and furious. She never baked another lemon meringue…which was okay by me, since I didn’t like it very much. I feel bad saying it, but it just wasn’t my favorite. I liked pumpkin best, with French silk and apple coming up second.

Nah, you aren’t a failure for not getting a cupcake. They’re overrated. 😉 I love me a cake with layers and frosting in between them.
