Only 3 months until Christmas!! What to do? Because I plan in advance (because I know I procrastinate) for the holidays, it is time to get on it right now.
I belong to a small group where we exchange handmade presents in December. I think I have a good idea for this year, thanks to some great DIY crafts I have found on the internet. I can’t mention it here because at least one recipient reads my blog. But I am excited about it and have scheduled next weekend to gather supplies and start the process. (such a tease –sorry)
Will probably be having Japanese guests this Xmas again, so should start thinking about that. Last year I made sure I had several little presents from Santa for your guest. Better start shopping early.
I have a large extended family and need to plot and plan gifts for all. I want to come up with something that is useful. Last year I did a type of food gift basket which included breakfast, soup, and dessert. I had so much fun putting it together; thinking everyone liked it.
I am running out of ideas. One year I dehydrated several different fruits, and also made jams and fruit leather snacks. Another year I made mosaic trivets for family. Here are some pictures.
Since I try to have everything done by Thanksgiving, I now only have 2 months. Help Help Help! If anyone has some spectacular ideas for gifts, please let me know ASAP!

Those trivets are adorable! I have been on a slipper kick lately, both quilted and knit. I haven’t even begun to think of Christmas gifts yet, so I don’t have much of a suggestion there. Good luck!
Glad you like the trivets. I’m not much into knitting or crocheting anymore, so slippers is probably beyond me. But I’ll be watching your blog to see if you come up with anything that I can “borrow.”
I love the mosaic tiles. I need to get started, too. I always make hand beaded Christmas ornaments for the kids’ trees. Over the years they have collected quite a few and I try to make a different one each year. That is about the extent of my craftiness for Christmas.
I need to get the grandchildren started on their lists – I have to either shop early and mail, or maybe this year I will travel and want the whole gift thing out of the way early. I actually groaned when I say the title to your post – but I thank you for getting me started.
Nice idea for hand-made beaded ornaments. I still have some that my mom made for me. Since my daughter was born, I give her 2 ornaments per Xmas. One is the standard Hallmark Daughter ornament, the other is an ornament depicting something in her life that year. The idea was that when she goes off on her own, she will already have a stash of several Xmas ornaments that mean something to her.
I threw a wine-tasting themed bridal shower and made some favors that were big hits. You can make lamps out of empty wine bottles and also make wine-glass charms using beads and silver hoops for making earrings (I ordered beads and the hoops from wholesale jewelry making websites.
Handmade salt scrubs and stuff like that is always fun too!
Nice idea! I have a few friends who would love a Xmas gift like that. Any instructions for making the wine bottle lamps?
Can you sew? Tote bags are great gifts and you can make them out of nontraditional things too like old sail’s or shower curtains. Maybe I’m crazy but I just love bags and I designate them for a spesfic use so having more is always better
thanks for the idea. I do indeed sew. Tote bags are indeed something everyone uses with all the recycling emphasis. Do you have any good patterns>
There was a clever book I got from the libary earlier this year and I can’t find the name but try the craft seciton of the library. I don’t sew by pattern too often, I find it easier to copy something I like.
I’ve always wanted to try my hand at mosaics and even quilts that look like mosaics. You’re such a crafty gal!
