Battle of the Cotton Swabs

I was stricken with an extreme headache this morning, so stayed home to recover. Felt better this afternoon and was able to get half a day of work done.  I guess that is one thing about not having Daughter at home; I can have complete peace and quiet. NOT! Daughter calls it “piece of quiet” which is kind of right on track for its meaning.

Anyway, back to the cotton swabs. The other day I mentioned cotton swabs and Sunni, the kitten. I’m trying to get over headache when I again hear racket in the house. Apparently Sunni had pulled out her stash of cotton swabs and was playing with them. MeiMei (the older) decided she wanted to play too.

MeiMei hogging the swab; poor Sunni.

So the battle ensued and they were flapping around so fast I couldn’t get a good picture. I tried to get a video but as always, the cats stopped their antics. Thus an innocent picture of MeiMei hogging the swab. And Sunni looking upset as if the say “It’s my swab you bully cat.”

I left them to battle it out themselves and went back to bed. When I got up later there was no sign of the cotton swabs. Wonder where Sunni stashes them? Guess I’ll find out when I get around to vacuuming.

WEATHER ALERT!  I just heard the weather guy say there is a possibility of reaching 80 degrees within the next several days!  Yikes, guess I better check out the AC and turn my sprinkler water on. And just in time for June!

Day 3 Weekend Plans

So I was up at 6:30 a.m. this morhing, but reading and on the computer. I did however head out to my moms to plant her flowers. Whew, that was a lot of work; I planted about 4 flats of flowers in planter boxes around her deck,  a collection of pots on the deck, and a few pots on the steps.

Now for the weekend goal status update:

  • Finish planting flowers outside  – DONE
  • Plant flowers at my moms (it’s her Mother’s Day present)  – DONE
  • Finish decluttering the kitchen  – PARTIALLY DONE
  • Put away Daughter’s stuff from college  – NOPE
  • Get caught up on laundry  – DONE
  • Vacuum  – NOPE
  • Clean bathroom  – PARTIALLY DONE
  • Bring out the lawn furniture  – DONE
  • RELAX  – Yeah baby; DONE, DONE and DONE!!

Didn’t get everything done that I wanted to, but did get a fair amount accomplished.  And had loads of fun doing the geneology bit.

I’m exhausted and going to bed as I have to work tomorrow. So will sign off showing pictures of my mom’s flowers. They will look better in a month.

Day 2 Weekend Plans

I know! It is actually day 3 of the weekend, but I was so busy yesterday (day 2) that I didn’t get to posting. And before you think — “wow, that girl really knows how to stick with her goals” — stop right there!

I was lounging in bed reading (that counts as relaxing), when Brother 2 called. He was out at the lake and being a techno-geek, he had an air card and was into Ancestry.com. He wanted some past family info that I sort of had in my brain (somewhere). So after chatting for an hour or so, he got me so excited about this that I signed up for Ancestry.com and am now working on the grandmother side; he’s doing the grandfather side.

Now before I continue, I should explain the relationship between Brother 2 and me. We are one week apart; he is OLDER (have to get that dig in there – LOL). How can that be you may ask? Well, we have been cousins since birth. His father and my mother are brother and sister. His father died and then my mother died. The remaining spouses (no blood relatives in case you were thinking something illegal)–my father and his mother–married each other! So then I had 3 step-brothers and 1 step-sister — who I have grown up with as cousins. This all happened when we were in our late 20s so we never lived together as a family.

Anyway, we are all fairly close so I just refer to them as brothers and sister, and the mother (who is my aunt), is also my step-mom, but I just call her mom.  Confused??  Join the crowd. Brother 2 and I work at the same place too! Sometimes we call each other step-custards; our own word for cousins, step sister/brother.  When we really want to confuse someone at work, we tell them how we are related. Whereas it is true my father is from the Ozarks of Arkansas, we are not redoing Deliverence or Jerry Lee Lewis or anything like that!

Ancestry.com got me snagged for the entire day so I did NOTHING toward my weekend goals, except relax.  Works for me!

Brother 2 and his wife are cat fanatics. Here’s a pix of one of his cats (ElBee) while they were camping over the Memorial Day weekend.
